Sacred Heart has many areas of ministry.  If you'd like to share your time and talent in one of the following areas, please notify the contact person listed or contact the church office.

Contact Sarah McIntyre
The process by which adults learn about and become members of the Catholic Church. We welcome new members into our parish through this period of reflection, prayer, instruction, discernment, and formation.  Weekly meetings begin in September through May.  Christian Initiation is celebrated by Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.assist with the seasonal decorating, sewing & floral needs of the Church.
Altar Society
Contact Fay  Cunningham
Ladies of the parish who oversee and care for the interior of the Church; maintain the altar, linens, vestments, candles, and holy water; assist at parish funerals and work with other organizations I preparing food for bereaved families.  They also  assist with seasonal decorationg, sewing and floral needs of the Church.
Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC)

Minister to the Church community by assisting the Priest & Deacon in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful.  The ministry is open to women and men who are registered parishioners in good standing, including young adults, confirmed and 18 years of age or older
Altar Servers

Assist the Priest at Mass and other liturgical celebrations.  Open to girls & boys 5th grade & older.  A training class is provided.

Arrive 20 minutes before Mass to welcome all who arrive for worship.  This ministry is open to both men and women, to individuals, couples and families.

Serve God by proclaiming the Scriptures so that those listening will understand and apply God’s Word to their lives.  Open to men, women and youth of the parish.
Religious Education for Children

PSR reaches children from 3 years to high school.  Through Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Ages 3 yrs to 3rd grade)  God’s Word is proclaimed (the same readings the adults hear in Mass) in words children can easily understand during the 9:00 am mass period.  Children are encouraged to respond in song, prayer, and directed discussion.   Through the Parish School of Religion (PSR) [Pre K 3 – High School]  held from September thru May from 10:15-11:20 am each Sunday, it uses a fun, hands-on approach to Religious Education, with doctrine being presented in all Catholic areas.  First Communion classes for 2nd grade and a two-year confirmation class are provided. Through Vacation Bible School - (Ages 3 yrs to 5th grade) this custom designed four night summer program is held in the evenings, from 6-8 pm.  Each year a new and exciting adventure awaits!
Gift Bearers
Individuals or families of the faithful who volunteer to carry the gifts which will become Christ’s Body and Blood, forward at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, to be accepted by the priest or deacon and carried to the altar.
Mass Captain
Parishioners who assist the priest and/or deacon by ensuring those assigned to ministry for the mass are available or find replacements.
Catholicism Project

A 10 part documentary film series & study program that captures the body, heart and mind of the Catholic faith narrated by Fr. Robert Barron, an acclaimed author and theologian. The series is presented in the language of contemporary life and starts from the Incarnation of Jesus through all the elements that define Catholicism.  Series is filmed in actual locations depicted in the Bible and takes us through 50 locations throughout the world.  Come join us for an inspiring journey!
Parishioners who take care of the many details necessary for our weekday Masses to flow in a smooth manner.  They arrive before Mass to check the doors, lights, temperature, and to turn on the sound system.  They also prepare the bread, wine, cups, and the presider’s chalice.

Members of our Music Ministries seek to give glory to God in song, enhance our worship, and support the full participation of the assembly.  Choir rehearsals are open to all and scheduled each Wednesday evening.  
Ministers of Care
EMCHs who volunteer their time to visit and give Communion to the sick & shut-ins in their home or nursing facilities.
Volunteers to take up the offertory collection and assist Mass Captain.  Open to both men and women
Youth Group

Welcomes newly registered guests through phone calls and written notes.  They sponsor a Hospitality Sunday and a Parish Pot Luck.
Bring a Friend Sunday
Every Third Sunday we strive to bring a friend and share our love with the Little Church with the Big Heart family.
Protecting God’s Children
Training provided by Mary Chauvin to alert parents & grandparents to protect our children from predators.  This program includes initial 3 hour training and then monthly online newsletters/training.  This is a diocesan requirement for anyone working with children.
Bereavement Committee
Support members of our parish and their family when dealing with the loss of a loved one.  A meal for the family is prepared in Gabriel Hall.
Blood Drive

Believing in the gift of life, Sacred Heart hosts quarterly the LifeShare Blood Drive.  When meeting Group Benefit Requirements we give the additional gift that all immediately family receive Donor Benefits.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Catholic lay organization of both women and men who join to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person services to those in need and witness God’s love by embracing works of charity and justice.  Our boundary includes entire west side of Shreveport, covering parts of Lakeshore to Bert Kouns to Bethany. We sponsor annual Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, Christmas Angel Tree gifts, Lenten bags with hygiene products Easter baskets and annual back-to-school backpacks with school supplies.
Ladies Guild

To foster spiritual growth through service and social occasions which cultivates a sense of apostolic ministry, provides aid both spiritually and materially to the parish.  We provide receptions for Sacramental occasions, for Christmas, and host Catholic Women’s league luncheon every other year.  We furnish food for funerals of our members and assist the Bereavement Committee.  
Parish Picnic/Christmas Party
Sacred Heart hosts annually a parish picnic and extend our invitation to our surrounding neighbors.  Hosting events such as “Back-To-School” or “Neighborhood Fun Day” which included City of Shreveport Police, Fire, SPAR, Property Requirements, a councilman Sam Jenkins.  Our annual Christmas party potluck includes singing our favorite Christmas hymns.
Flowers for Mass/Special Occasions

This ministry enhances our liturgy as it enhances our environment.  Flowers may be arranged by our decorators for your special needs: birthday, anniversary, or memorial.  
Friends in Faith and Service

Friends in Faith and Service - Chartered April 29, 1997, by Liz Clark, its goals are to fellowship with church, family and community, parish involvement, spiritual growth and to support parish activities. They give momentary gifts to St. Vincent de Paul during the year. Come join this organization and support Sacred Heart!
